After scoring a sixth and tenth in race one of the Fuchs Silkolene British Supersport race yesterday at Croft the East Coast Racing riders Gary Johnson and Lee Johnston had a good second race today at Croft as Gary gained sixth place with Lee not far behind him in seventh.
It was an action packed race for the riders battling for sixth place with the riders swapping positions on several occasions. Gary and Lee started in ninth and tenth on the grid for today's 18-lap race and after the first fraught lap Lee was ninth and Gary was 11th. Both riders settled into a good rhythm and were soon making progress through the pack.
Gary worked hard throughout the race for his sixth place and said "I'm pretty happy with the weekend I've had two consistent results in both races and we had to change engines after the race yesterday and so it was important that I didn't do anything stupid in the first few laps. The bike felt good we were a little bit out on a few things like the mapping but that's purely because of the engine change. The good thing is that now the East Coast Racing Honda is nicely bedded in for going to the North West 200, I've walked away from Croft with two good results, uninjured and ready to head to Ireland. The team have once again worked really hard and I can't wait to get to the North West now."
Lee was reasonably happy saying "It's not been the weekend that I would have hoped for but it was two more sets of consistent points and I'm now lying in seventh in the Championship standings and I've just got to keep working hard to try and push and improve my results. Things went so well in practice and I just seemed to struggle in the races. My start today wasn't too bad and I held my position after the first lap, I had a couple of scary moments during the race which unsettled me a little bit but I soon managed to get my head down and push again. The East Coast Racing team have been brilliant again and I would like to pass on my thanks to Darryl at Gas Racing for all his help and support. I can't wait to get to Thruxton as it's one of my favourite tracks and I'm really looking forward to it."
Gary, Lee and the entire East Coast Racing team are heading to the ferry port tonight to catch the boat to Ireland for the first North West 200 practice session on Tuesday night. Lee will be competing in the Supersport races and Gary will be riding in the Supersport, Superstock and Superbike races for East Coast Racing. All the races will take place on Saturday 21st May.
