Hard start for Regalia at Franciacorta

A retirement in the first race, when he was beaten by a rival, and a 14th place in second one are the results for Argentinean-born driver in Italy.

Facu Regalia, like all others Italian Formula 3 drivers, was surprised by the rain on Sunday, when it appeared in the morning at Franciacorta. In spite of Regalia, Team Ghinzani´s driver, was wishing this rain to improve his performance after a complicated qualifying session, rain wasn´t finally a help.

Piercarlo Ghinzani´s pupil made a good start, as he explained: “I started quite well, but Guerin blocked me, and then Mancinelli overtook me”. However, things went wrong later, when a rival spun and, while Regalia overtook on the inside, most drivers chose an outside lane. “My car was hard to turn in the rain. But anyway I keep pushing hard, and then the third lap was a major issue for me, because I was trying to overtake Maisano and I was beaten by another rival´s car, damaging my singleseater´s suspension. After this incident with Krohn, I tried to continue, and I was lapping as fast as leaders, but I had finally to retire”, said Regalia.

Second race wouldn´t be easy either, as Regalia started from last row after his early retirement in race one. Dry asphalt and twisty track weren´t factors to make possible a recovery coming from 19 years-old driver. “I made a good start, overtaking three drivers. But in lap two I begin to suffer understeer. I also lost my radio, I couldn´t contact with my engineer. At the end I finished 14th, which was a result beyond my expectations”, added Regalia.

Second 2011 season meeting is scheduled on 5th June at Misano, “where we will try to improve this difficult starting. Franciacorta was a circuit which we knew it wasn´t suitable for us, but I didn´t imagine such a hard beginning. We have to learn what happened and we must be ready for Misano”.
