Wills set for every race at Brands Hatch Masters Festival!

Historic racer Roger Wills is set to make history at the Brands Hatch Masters Historic Festival on May 28th – 30th by tackling every race over the three days!

Moscow-based New Zealander Wills has a fleet of cars for his racing and will be racing one car (and in some cases two cars) in every race of the weekend.

Topping the list of cars are his two Formula 1 entries for the GP Masters races, a Williams FW05 (as raced by Jacky Ickx and Arturo Merzario) and his Lotus 92/5 that Nigel Mansell took to sixth place in the 1983 Detroit Grand Prix.

For the Sports Racing Masters race, Roger will share his McLaren M1B (with a period history of racing in America) with Joe Twyman and his Elva MkVIII (an ex-Peter Goetz car from American racing) with Paul Radisich. A second McLaren, a 1967 ex-John Woolfe M1C, will be campaigned in the WSM races, while Roger will race a BMW CSL in the Touring 70s class, the car built into a race car from a road car and running in period livery. Roger has his mighty 4.7-litre 1965 Mercury Comet Cyclone at his disposal for the Pre-66 Touring Car race, before jumping to his Austin Cooper S: from one extreme the other!

Roger will race a Lotus Elite in Saturday’s Cloth Cap race and his rare 1959 Gaz Volga, believed to be the only racing example in existence, in the 1950s Oldies but Goldies race, while he will share his 1965 Bizzarrini 5300GT with Joe Twyman in the Gentlemen Drivers Pre-66 GT race.

With a Van Diemen RF91 rented for the Champion of Brands FF1600 race, a total of 21 cars will be heading for Brands either from Roger’s stable either for him or his team-mates to drive.

Said Roger: “It’s going to be a busy weekend, that’s for sure. I reckon there are 16 races that I will be doing and in some I will have to jump from one car to another, but I can’t wait. I love racing at Brands Hatch and with me not doing much historic racing this season with my modern GT commitments, it is great to be back at the wheel of all these fabulous old cars.”

The Brands Hatch Masters Festival runs from May 28th-30th with racing on Saturday May 28th on the Indy circuit and the famous Grand Prix circuit on May 29th and 30th.
