FOR 2012 SEASON
ROOKIES EXPERIENCE GREAT DAY AT “AUTODROMO ENZO E DINO FERRARI”
While Johan Kristoffersson left nothing to fate at Imola by scoring an impressive double win in round 2 of the 2012 SUPERSTARS INTERNATIONAL SERIES, 17-year-old Andrea Boffo provided more rookie power by ending up on the podium in Race 2 after having been into the lead for most part of the distance. The Swedish Audi Sport KMS racer, who turned 23 last December, brought the new 4-wheel-drive Audi RS5 to its first win ever and fought agains all the great stars of the championship. «This has definitely been the most rewarding race in my entire career. - told Kristoffersson - It was the first time I was racing at Imola and I would have never imagined to hear the Swedish national anthem on the podium twice. For me and Audi, it's been an incredible weekend».In Race 1, Kristoffersson was involved in a last-gasp fight for the lead with an international superstar like Gianni Morbidelli: «My car had a faster pace in some parts of the track, while he caught up in others. We were almost perfectly matched. I tried not to make mistakes and resist to each charge until Morbidelli hit me with just a few corners to go. I was lucky to continue while the radiator of his Audi broke and he was forced to stop». Then, in Race 2 he put together another sensational performance as he kept cool while some smoke started to come out of the back of his RS5. «I didn't even have the time to realize what happened in Race 1 and then I was celebrating another win» - said Kristoffersson, who also cliched the lead in standings with a 2-point margin over 2010 champion Thomas Biagi (BMW). The Audi racer is also leading amongst rookies.
The Rookie of the Year challenge was created for drivers that were under the age of 24 at the end of 2011 and have not taken part in more than one SUPERSTARS event: their 12 best race results will be considered in a battle for and handsome prize. The winning rookie will be awarded 100.000 € to run the 2013 SUPERSTARS SERIES championship. Things won't be easy for Kristoffersson though: teenager Andrea Boffo, the youngest driver to have ever made it to a SUPERSTARS podium, has set his sights on victory as he looks forward to the next round at Donington Park, as well as German Thomas Schoeffler, born in 1993 and lined-up by MTM Motorsport on an Audi RS5. The British track will host the first out of five international rounds of the 2012 calendar on May the 19th and 20th. May the best young man win!
