Unsurprisingly, the weather was very changeable at Spa for Atech Reid in the Formula Renault Eurocup races last weekend; it was either wet, very wet or monsoon like, making things very interesting for the driver Alessandro Latif.
Alessandro is a rookie in Eurocup this year and he was certainly thrown in at the deep end for his first visit to Spa. The legendary track that is both testing and exhilarating in dry conditions was something of a challenge for Alessandro, one which he conquered with flying colours. He was able to bring the car home in both races and for a racer who couldn't see anything did very well to stay out of trouble, something that some of the old hands further up the grid failed to do so.
The races were interrupted by red flags, restarts and safety cars, making this an eventful weekend of racing for any campaigner. Alessandro was able to get some mileage under his belt running in the wet and find his feet racing in the wet. Whilst not a weekend to set the record books alight, it was a weekend that one can take a lot of positives from.
Anthony Reid, Team Principal Atech Reid GP said "whilst the weather Gods haven't been kind to us, we've been doing lots of work to get Alessandro comfortable driving in these difficult conditions. It was great that he finished both races and given the circumstances that is all we could really ask of him. We are back to Spa in the coming weeks a round of the ALPS series and Alessandro will be able to build on his knowledge garnered from this weekend."
Alessandro Latif said "it was an amazing experience to race at Spa, the conditions were terrible for racing but I think I put in a good performance and managed not to have and incidents of my own making. I can't wait to get back to Spa in the ALPS later in the month and hopefully we'll get a few days of dry weather."
