Al Harthy Delighted With Porsche Carrera Cup Double At Croft

Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship racer Ahmad Al Harthy eased to his sixth victory of the year, and second of the weekend, at Croft in North Yorkshire on Sunday, 24th June, to further enhance his lead at the top of the Pro-Am 1 standings as the first half of the season comes to a close.Following on from a faultless lights-to-flag win in round nine at the 2.12-mile track, the 30-year-old Oman Air Racing Team driver delivered an even more impressive performance in round 10 with a four second winning margin in a race he once again led from start to finish.Making it two wins for the weekend, six for the year and a remarkable unbroken run of 10 podiums in 2012, Ahmad now returns home to Muscat for the seven week mid-season break with a healthy grip on the Pro-Am 1 championship.“It really has been a perfect weekend with two wins from two poles”, said the Oman Air, Oman Ministry of Sports Affairs, Oman Ministry of Tourism, Nawras, National Bank of Oman and Muscat Eye Laser Centre-backed driver, “The team did a great job with the car all weekend, we had changing conditions from the test on Friday right through but the car was great all the way.“I’m delighted to be leading the championship with a good margin at the halfway point of the season, we just need to concentrate on keeping the momentum when we begin the second half of the season in August.”Making a great start from the Pro-Am 1 class pole position, Ahmad built a lead of 1.3 seconds by the end of the first lap alone and steadily increased his advantage over chief title rival Derek Pierce from the mid-point of the race onward. With a clear track ahead, he was able to push on and focus on making no mistakes as he reeled off very consistent laps to pull over three seconds clear by lap 10. During the final third of the race, the Omani was able to continue edging further clear with one of his customary assured performances.“The first half of the season really has been fantastic”, he added, “None of this would have been possible without our fantastic sponsors and without the hard work of the guys at the team. They have all been doing such an incredible job. It’s nice to have the mid-season break but we’re already looking forward to being back in the car!”There is now a lengthy seven week break in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship race calendar with the second half of the season beginning on 11th/12th August at Snetterton 300 Circuit in Norfolk.2012 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship – Pro-Am1 Driver Standings (after Rd10):1st Ahmad Al Harthy, 94pts
