At his sixth season in the FG GROUP-promoted championship, Max Pigoli is still one of the most popular names in SUPERSTARS, also thanks to his rich resume which also includes one Italian title scored in the top V8-powered competition aboard a Jaguar in 2006. The Como-based racer made his way back to the British manufacturer's camp this season, lined-up on a Jaguar XFR model by Ferlito Motors after having spent a positive stint driving for Mercedes. In 2011, he ended up as the runner up in the Italian series, scoring multiple wins along the way.
The 2012 season started in an extremely positive fashion for him as he cruised to one win and a second-place finish at home in Monza after having clocked the pole position on Saturday. At Imola and Donington Park though, he suffered from a couple of bad breaks despite the fast pace showed at the British venues. Unfortunately, a contact put him out of contention. At Mugello, he stayed strong, ending up in sixth in race 1 behind current championship leader and former F.1 star Tonio Liuzzi.
Finally, at the Hungaroring, the Verona-based squad lined-up alongside Pigoli Domenico Ferlito, the son of Team Manager Vincenzo Ferlito. The weekend proved extremely tough for them: Max Pigoli was slightly injured in a Race 1 crash suffering from a cracked rib, while Ferlito Jr was forced to retire due to mechanical issues in the afternoon, despite having started from the front row.
“I hope to be back really quick and be on-shape for the next round at Spa-Francorchamps - told Pigoli - our season has become slightly more difficult after Monza. The Jaguar is suffering from an huge performance drop with high temperatures and especially in Hungary that made us lose up to 10% of the engine's power. Despite the issue, I'm looking forward to the next races and I hope to be back to the podium soon...”.
