Accident Advice Solicitors supported rider Johnny Blackshaw riding for Smiths Triumph secured seventh position at round eight of the Metzeler National Superstock Championship at Oulton Park. His first outing at the track this year back in May ended in disaster with a huge crash when he struck Josh Wainwright. This weekend was all about building confidence again in the circuit and leaving with some solid Championship points.
Friday practice was pretty much a wash out as the rain fell heavily delaying every session on Friday, when they were finally allowed out on track Johnny managed to get seventh. The weather conditions took a turn for the better for qualifying and the race on Saturday and Sunday. Johnny struggled to find a comfortable set up during the two qualifying sessions and was only able to manage to qualify in 13th position on the grid for the 12-lap race.
He got a really good start and was eager to work his way through the pack and get a good result, the racing was close and tight and Johnny had to make some strong passing moves. He was working his way through the pack and setting some good lap times but he was unable to catch the leading bunch. He had to settle for seventh as the chequered flag came out and is now lying in seventh in the overall Championship standings.
Johnny - "I'm pretty disappointed after this weekend we just struggled all weekend to find a good set up on the Smiths Triumph. We made some big changes after a bad qualifying session but with no morning warm up it was only the race I was able to test them in. Thankfully they worked and the bike felt much better during the race, I knew I had a big job on my hands from that far back on the grid. I just got my head down and made as many passes as I could and I got some solid Championship points. I'd like to thank Busby and all the Smiths team for working so hard this weekend and all year it's much appreciated."
