SUNDAY
Facu Regalia improved on Sunday and after tyre degradation problems on lap 4, finished 12th at the wheel of his Dallara-Renault fielded by Jenzer Motorsport - his best result this weekend during his first outing in the series after his successful results in Auto GP and European F3 Open.
Starting on 7th of the starting grid, Regalia overtook some cars at the beginning to be ninth. However his problems began soon due to tire degradation on lap 4. From then on it got worse with his car suffering from understeer but he managed to end up 12th.
I made a good start, and after lap one I was 9th. The track was very wet, more than yesterday, and we decided to use rain tires, but three other pilots used slick tires and it was the right choice in the end. We dont know why, and we need to study why, but on lap 4 my tire degradation was huge, mainly in front ones. My left front tire was almost a slick by the end, Regalia explained later. Argentinas driver added that I asked for pitting and to switch to slick tires on lap five, but they told me to stay on wet ones until the end. I tried to keep my 9th place but it was an impossible task, because three drivers with slicks overtook me being almost ten seconds per lap faster than me. I suppose there are people thinking this was a good debut for me in the series but in my opinion with less changeable conditions, our set-up would have been slightly better and our chances to improve bigger. Now I am focusing on the European F3 Open, because next weekend I am back with Campos Racing at Brands Hatch.
Brands Hatch is the penultimate meeting for the European F3 Open before summer break, because a week later the championship goes to Paul Ricard.
SATURDAY
Saturdays race was a tricky one due to weather conditions, with high humidity after heavy rain over the course of the day and Regalia, who ran was 9th for a while, ended up 14th, didnt feel comfortable at the wheel of Jenzer Motorsports car.
This was Regalia's maiden race in the GP3 series, the third championship in which he is taking part in 2012 after positive experiences with Campos Racing in Auto GP and European F3 Open.
Argentinian Regalia managed to start on 6th row of the starting grid, being fastest Jenzer Motorsport driver during qualifying session but the race was everything but an easy one, and after a good startrunning 9th at the beginning-, Regalia experienced some problems and was overtaken by some drivers finishing 14th.
At the end, Regalia explained that it was a start under very difficult conditions, because the track was damp, not fully wet, and my experience with GP3 car was with full rain conditions yesterday. We chose wet tires but, on the starting grid, decided to change them for slicks. They didnt have a good temperature to start the race despite my efforts to heat up them during formation lap. After the start, which was a good one overtaking one or two drivers, my first laps were pretty difficult until the tires began to work. Then, the car suffered from understeer and it was a challenge to keep it on track. My lap times werent good enough by then and I couldnt fight against more experienced drivers with this car. At the end, I was getting closer to Kotaro Sakurai, but he spun in front of me and I went off to avoid him, losing two more places. Finally I was 14th at the end.
For tomorrow we focus on improving our car, because our set-up wasnt good. The forecast predicts a dry race, lets see, Im aiming for overtaking as much drivers as possible and finishing in front places.
