OBrien joins Porsche Carrera Cup GB
Welsh teenage racer Fraser OBrien has unveiled plans to contest the second half of Porsche Carrera Cup GB season with GT Marques. The 17 year-old will join the grid at Snetterton (11/12 August) for what he intends will be a multi-year programme in the Carrera Cup.OBrien, who will only celebrate his 18th birthday in October, had hoped to tackle a full season but his plans were interrupted by sponsorship issues. Undeterred, the young entrepreneur has developed his own business under the Driving Wales Forward banner and has raised the budget to tackle the remaining 10 races.Last year, in his first full season of car racing, OBrien was a front-runner in Formula Vee but is determined to make the switch to sports and GT racing and sees the move to the Carrera Cup as the start of a three-year plan to establish a career as a professional racing driver. At GT Marques, OBrien will join Oly Mortimer, who has already taken two wins this season in Pro-Am1. Team boss Paul Mace is impressed with OBrien after an initial test at Donington Park. For a 17 year-old hes got a very mature head on young shoulders, said Mace. Its going to be a steep learning curve, but Fraser is very focused.During a team launch earlier this week at The Vale Resort, Cardiff, OBrien was joined by Olympic gold medalist Darren Campbell, who shares a connection with one of Frasers sponsors, PAS.
