Nrburgring - Second time lucky: Jason Kremer (17, Bonn, Mcke Motorsport) notched up his first Formel ADAC win of the season in Race 2 at the Nrburgring. Earlier today, he had to watch from the runner-up spot on the podium as Alessio Picariello (18, Belgium, G&J / Schiller-Motorsport) was crowned first victor of the weekend. In dry conditions, pole-sitter Kremer led from start to finish. It was the fifth time this year that the ADAC Sports Foundation protg has finished on the podium; for his team, Mcke Motorsport, this was their first trophy of 2012. "My first Formel ADAC win - what a great feeling that is! Especially to have got it in my home race at the Nrburgring", said Kremer. Runner-up in the junior series race, staged on the 3.618km sprint track at the Nrburgring as part of the support programme for the ADAC Truck Grand Prix, was current championship leader Marvin Kirchhfer (18, Leipzig, Lotus). The Lotus driver was involved in a thrilling scrap for second place with Picariello, who was buoyed up by having won Race 1 earlier in the day. Two laps from the end, ADAC Sports Foundation protg Kirchhfer swept past the Belgian to ensure his seventh podium of the season. With Picariello in third, the podium party consisted of three talented young drivers from three different teams. Gustav Malja (16, Sweden, Neuhauser Racing) finished fourth. Winner of two previous races this season, he took the chequered flag seven seconds adrift of the Top 3. Following him across the line was Jeffrey Schmidt (18, Switzerland) in P5 ahead of sixth-placed Thomas Jger (17, Austria, Neuhauser Racing). Kuba Dalewski (16, Poland, Lotus) stormed up the field from twelfth on the grid to finish seventh. Picking up the remaining points in the eleventh race of the season were Roy Nissany (17, Israel, Mcke Motorsport), Indy Dontje (19, Netherlands, Lotus) and Hendrik Grapp (18, Berlin, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V.). Comments from the Top Three drivers Jason Kremer, Winner: "My first Formel ADAC win - what a great feeling that is! Especially to have got it in my home race at the Nrburgring. We didn't know what track conditions to expect, and we made a slight adjustment to the setup just before the start of the race. That cost me a bit of speed on the last couple of laps, which meant I had my work cut out to defend my position against both Marvin Kirchhfer and Alessio Picariello. Both of them tried to overtake, but fortunately, I was able to fend them off." Marvin Kirchhfer, Second: "The race was very tough, especially the scraps with Alessio Picariello. There was one point at which we briefly had contact, but it didn't cause any damage. Everything was within the limits of fair competition. Shortly before the end of the race, I managed to overtake him and then immediately to close the gap on Jason Kremer. However, I decided to hang back, as I didn't want to risk my overall championship lead. Earlier in the race, I misjudged the surface conditions in the NGK chicane and skidded off track. I'm not intending to make that mistake again next time I'm on course for a podium." Alessio Picariello, Third: "I was up against Jason Kremer and Marvin Kirchhfer from start to finish. It was a tough race, but always a fair one. At times, I was the one with the faster pace, but overall, Marvin was clearly better and he eventually overtook me. All in all, I'm satisfied with the way the race went. We have been very fast in dry conditions, and the whole weekend has gone very well for us so far. Now we've got the third race to look forward to tomorrow. If I get off to a decent start from sixth on the grid, we should be in line for another respectable result."
