Koch and Eidson extend Skip Barber Racing School Summer Series

Championship Point Standings at Lime Rock ParkSkip Barber racers from around the country recently traveled to Lime Rock Park for Rounds 9 & 10 of the Skip Barber Racing School Summer Series. Kenton Koch extended his point lead from veteran racer Bryan Hixon who was not present at the race weekend. Additionally, Skip Barber Racing School Winter Series Champion, Jake Eidson, also experienced a successful weekend by extending his point lead in the Skip Barber Racing School open-wheel class of the Skip Barber Racing School Summer Series presented by Mazda. Peter Portante also experienced his first win of the series, which allows him to inch closer to Eidson in the point standings.The next stop in the series will be Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for Rounds 11 & 12 of the Skip Barber Racing School Summer Series presented by Mazda.Group 1 Race 1, Skip Barber Racing School MAZDASPEED ChallengeWith a very tight green flag start, Kenton Koch pulled away the first few turns. Michael Auriemma and Brett Hawkins moved close enough to Koch to challenge in the first few laps. However, Koch benefitted from a late battle between Hawkins and Ben Albano for second which allowed Koch to run away from the field. Back in the pack, Daniel Conway and Auriemma raced for fourth. Jimmy Craige moved into fifth position before Conway and Auriemma pulled away from him. That group chased Hawkins and Albano who finished second and third. Koch led for the majority of the race and won.Group 1 Race 2, Skip Barber Racing School MAZDASPEED ChallengeComing off his race 1 win, Kenton Koch starts in front. Two sets of three-wide go through the SS section with only one instance of possible contact. Koch and Ben Albano pull away from the pack and actually work together to increase the lead before the eventual sprint to the finish. In the next pack of racers, the races big mover Peter Ludwig moved all the way up from his starting position of 14 to battle with Daniel Conway and Michael Auriemma for positions 3rd. Ludwig played his hot hand to move all the way into third where he finished. Koch and Albano put on a show passing each other back and forth. Koch finished in first just ahead of Albano who took second.

Group 2 Race 1, Formula Skip BarberContact on the first turn of the first lap shuffles the leaders. Tristan DeGrand who started in first has to pit and loses track position. After the contact reshuffled the field, Adrian Starrantino, Jack Mitchell Jr. and Jake Eidson were out front. Starrantino gets pulled off on a black flag. In the back of the pack, Ayla Agren and Andrew Hobbs are working hard to make life difficult for each other. Eidson, Mitchell Jr. and Peter Portante breakaway in a tight lead pack. Mitchell Jr. spent a little time in first, and Portante spent a little time in second. In the end, Eidson pulls out the narrow victory by less than 3-hundredths of a second. Mitchell Jr. and Portante finish second and third in a close lead group.Group 2 Race 2, Formula Skip BarberJack Mitchell Jr. takes the lead after a jumbled first few turns. On lap 2, Jake Eidson takes the lead, but his race would come to a frustrating end. Contact on the turn 1 during lap 17, damages Eidsons car to a point where he has to call it. The lead was hard for everyone to hold. Eidson was pushing Tristand DeGrand before the damage forced Edison to the pits. Andrew Hobbs got as high as third before getting black-flagged and subsequently disqualified for failing to pit afterwards. DeGrand and Mitchell Jr. were able to pull away and finish well ahead of the rest of the field in first and second. Peter Portante finished in third.

Group 3 Race 1, Skip Barber Racing School MAZDASPEED ChallengeKenton Koch started in the lead and quickly built a multiple car-length lead. Behind Koch, Jim Craige, Michael Auriemma and Daniel Conway are in a middle pack. In lap 7, Auriemma is disqualified after he sees four black flags but refuses to pit. A big mover in the race was Zoran Mitrovski who came all the way up from 8th to finish 4th. Koch runs away and hides to win comfortably. Craige builds a strong gap on the bulk of the field and finished second. Daniel Conway finished in third.Group 3 Race 2, Skip Barber Racing School MAZDASPEED ChallengePeter Ludwig led at the start. Kenton Koch took the lead during lap 2. A pack of Ludwig, Daniel Conway, Jim Craige and Ben Albano were chasing Koch in a pack. Michael Auriemma and Leleand Englebardt were the front of a third pack. Albano had a rough end to his race. After dropping a few positions, Albano found the wall on the on lap 24. Behind Koch who built a solid lead, Ludwig, Conway and Craige were locked in a tight race to fill out the podium. Ludwig and Conway held off Craige to finish second and third behind Koch. Group 4 Race 1, Formula Skip BarberPeter Portante started on pole.  As the green flagged waved the pack fanned out and it was five wide going into Big Bend with Portante in front followed closely by Andrew Long and Jack Mitchell Jr. After three laps  in, the breakaway group began to emerge. Mitchell Jr. used the draft to slowly reel in Daly to take P3.  After passing Daly, Mitchell Jr. set his sights on Longe in who was in second. After a few laps of filing in his mirrors, Mitchell Jr. overtook Longe to acquire the second position. With the two wide racing behind, Portante built a comfortable lead over Mitchell Jr. and Longe.  The fast charger of the race was Ayla Agren.  Agren methodically moved herself into fifth from the 12th starting position.  After the checkard flag waived, it was Portante, Mitchell Jr and Longe making up the three podium spots with Daly coming away with P4 and top masters honors.Group 4 Race 2, Formula Skip BarberAfter coming away with his first win with Skip Barber Racing School in Race 1, Peter Portnate received pole position with Jack Mitchell Jr on the outside.  The green flag waived and everyone went single file for the first few laps.  Portante was hounded by Mitchell Jr. as he tried to find a way to get around.  Ayla Agren was there to pouch on any mistke by the top two. After four hard fought laps, Agren finds herself in P2 as Portante had a comfortable lead. Agren pitted for a four off and rejoined the field.  With ten  laps to go it was Portante ahead by a mile with Mitchell Jr holding a solid second and Pat Daly rounding out third.  At the stripe to end the final race it was Portante sweeping group 4 with Mitchell Jr. and Daly take second and third.
