Ahmad Al Harthy aims for winning return to Porsche Carrera Cup GB CPro-Am action

Runaway leader of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship Pro-Am 1 points standings Ahmad Al Harthy is aiming for a winning start to the second half of the season at Snetterton in Norfolk this weekend, 11th/12th August, when the 2012 campaign resumes after a lengthy seven week break.

Driving for the Oman Air Racing team, the 30-year-old from Muscat in the Middle Eastern sultanate has enjoyed a remarkable season so far with a 100 percent podium record from the first 10 rounds, including six Pro-Am 1 class victories.

Last time out in Porsche Carrera Cup GB at North Yorkshires Croft Circuit in late June, Ahmad raced to a sensational double win to cap-off the first half of the season in perfect style. The aim now of course, for rounds 11 and 12, is to maintain the high level of performance delivered so far in 2012.

Its a fantastic feeling to be back racing, said the Omani, The first half of the season was beyond anything we could have wished for, 10 podiums from 10 races and with six wins I couldnt have hoped for anything better when the season started.

Were in an amazing position at the moment with a good lead in the Pro-Am 1 Championship but there is still a very long way to go. The most important thing is to maintain our focus and ensure we keep delivering strong finishes to try and continue increasing the gap at the top of the points table.

During the extended summer break in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB calendar, the Oman Air, Oman Ministry of Sports Affairs, Oman Ministry of Tourism, Nawras, National Bank of Oman and Muscat Eye Laser Centre-backed racer has been training hard to ensure hes at peak fitness.

In addition, he did have the opportunity to compete for only the second time in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup during the British Grand Prix weekend at Silverstone last month. As in his previous outing in the globes biggest Porsche series in 2011, Ahmad encountered misfortune contact from a rival leading to a puncture and retirement. The experience, though, was invaluable.

Racing in Porsche Supercup is always fantastic, the level you have to compete at is so high and it teaches you so much, he commented, Obviously, the non-finish was disappointing but I learnt a lot and that can only be beneficial for me in my bid for the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Pro-Am 1 title.

I know the Oman Air Racing Team will give me a great car at Snetterton, we just need to make sure we qualify strongly and bring home two strong results. Two wins would be nice but protecting, and hopefully increasing, our championship lead has to be the main goal.

Pre-event testing for the Porsche competitors will take place this Friday, 10th August, with qualifying for rounds 11 and 12 following on Saturday, 11th August, at 14.00. On Sunday, 12th August, the first of the weekends races will begin at 10.25 while the second, which will be broadcast live in the UK on ITV4 and ITV4 HD and streamed online at the itv.com/btcc website, will start at 16.10.
