Freddie Lee Latest To Join Hillspeed For Ginetta Junior

Freddie Lee, son of legendary racer Barry Lee, is the latest driver to join Hillspeeds ranks in the Ginetta Junior Championship it is officially confirmed today, Thursday, 9th Augustthe youngster set to make his category debut at Snetterton in Norfolk this coming weekend, 11th/12th August.Just a few days after announcing championship regular Keith Donegan as Spanish youngster Pepe Massots new team-mate, the Hathersage squad is delighted to welcome 14-year-old Lee into the fold as it returns to being a three-car entry for the first time since mid-April.Chelmsford-based Lee will arrive in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship-supporting series from the Motorsport News Ford Fiesta Junior Championship where he has been a strong front-runnerwinning his maiden race in the category at Silverstone.Freddies reputation precedes him and were delighted to have this opportunity to work together, said Hillspeed team principal Richard Ollerenshaw, Obviously, a Ginetta is very different from the cars Freddie has experienced to date but he clearly has the ability to make the transition.Ahead of Lees first official Ginetta Junior test outing at Snetterton tomorrow, Friday, 10th August, the Essex racer did have the chance to sample a G40 car at Bedford Autodrome recently which triggered the switch from Ford Fiestas.He commented: Im a little sad to be leaving the Junior Fiesta championship as I have met some great people. Its a good starter series as the cars feel familiar as they are based on a road car, but I have to think of the bigger picture and my long term objectives.The Ginetta Junior Championship provides not only a great race car to drive on track, but also delivers greater exposure and sponsor appeal. Im looking forward to working with the Hillspeed team and Richard [Ollerenshaw] and Im very excited to be making this initial appearance at SnettertonI cant wait to get out testing.Following officially timed testing at Snettertons 300 Circuit on Friday, 10th August, an additional practice run will follow on Saturday, 11th August, prior to qualifying for rounds 11 and 12.
