Privateer team that challenged the top dogs stars at Chelsea AutoLegends
On Sunday, 2nd September, the Strakka professional endurance racing team, based near Silverstone, will be displaying its LMP1 Honda Performance Development ARX-03a car at Chelsea AutoLegends in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea. The car competes in the 2012 FIA World Endurance Championship and, at this years Le Mans 24 Hours event, drivers Nick Leventis, Danny Watts and Jonny Kane drove the LMP1 to seventh on the grid in qualificationthe top privateer car behind the four Works Audis and two Works Toyotas.
In 2010, just three years after Strakka Racing was established, it won the LMP2 class at the Le Mans 24 Hours, finishing a record-breaking fifth overall. Later on that year, it became the first team to win a round of the Le Mans Series in a LMP2 car, with victory at the Hungaroring.
Dan Walmsley, team manager at Strakka Racing, commented: Chelsea AutoLegends is a great motoring and social event which goes straight into our diary at the beginning of the season. We had our LMP2 car on display there last year and were looking forward to showing off our HPD ARX-03a P1 prototype this timeas well as having a good look around ourselves and soaking up the fantastic atmosphere.
Chelsea AutoLegends organiser Max Wakefield added: Strakka is the embodiment of Le Mans endurance. This team, with so few resources compared to the large manufacturers, hasthrough focus, determination, brilliance and applicationbeen able to take the fight to the brute force of the enemy. The best British qualities played out on French soil. Its great to have such a successful privateer team on display. Strakka has shown that it can challenge the Works teams in endurance racing and is a great addition to the extensive Le Mans section for this year.
The LMP1 Honda will sit alongside over 500 cars ranging from early 20th century classics to modern day supercars. Chelsea AutoLegends is one of the countrys leading car events and, for 2012, will be supporting Armed Forces charity Walking with the Wounded. The events partners include EFG, John D Wood & Co and HR Owen. Features include Le Mans and Formula 1 tributes, as well as women in motorsport and stars cars.
