OMBRA RACING TEAM DRIVER EXTENDS GTSPRINT COMMITMENT TO 2013
Mario Cordoni has definitely become one of the emerging characters of the 2012 GTSPRINT INTERNATIONAL SERIES. After the first five double races of the season, the Ombra Racing man is sitting in the GTS3 class lead and is also holding a spectacular second place overall as he made his way to the frontrunners' pack of the FG GROUP-promoted championship.
With six wins and three third-place finish in his class, Cordoni has had a great season so far with his Ferrari 458 Italia. The Piedmont-based man, has also been enjoying a sensational stint with four straight podium finishes culminated with a sensational overall win at Spa-Francorchamps.
The final part of the season will feature an even tighter challenge for Cordoni courtesy of Roberto Benedetti and Roberto Del Castello with their Corvette Z06. Two races are still to go (the series' grand finale will be at Vallelunga on the first weekend of October), and Cordoni is also running strong in the overall standings right behind Andrea Palma, after having beaten him to victory in Belgium.
"I'm really thrilled with GTSPRINT - told Cordoni - the series benefits from huge international visibility and that's great in terms of media coverage and sponsorship. Another really important aspect is its fanbase, with a lot of people filling the grandstands of some of the best racetracks in Europe. I also like the brand-new format with two sprint races because there's always plenty of action and surprises. At Spa-Francorchamps I ran the best race of my life and I ended up with a great victory also thanks to the great relationship with the team. I will be staying in GTSPRINT for awhile, and I hope to stay at the front of the pack.
