Packed weekend of displays and prizes in storeSpecial offer to try karting for a fiver

The curtain comes down on the 2012 Formula Kart Stars season this Sunday at Whilton Mill with the first Golden Helmet weekend in the 17 year history of the Formula One Management backed Championship.

The Golden Helmet is shaping up to be the biggest single weekend in Formula Kart Stars history with a plethora of special events, guests and attractions lined up to compliment what promises to be an exhilarating weekend of action on the track.

Over the course of the two days the 2012 MSA British Cadet Champion and the Formula Kart Stars Junior Rotax Champion will be crowned while the winners of Sundays final in Cadet Honda and Senior Rotax will be awarded the inaugural FKS Golden Helmet title. Lando Norris may already have won the FKS Mini Max title but there is plenty else to play for in that class as well.

Off track there will be a multitude of things to keep drivers, parents, teams and spectators interested, not to mention the Boston College Education Bus to help all drivers who have returned to school this week.

Subject to final confirmation, FKS championship patron Anthony Hamilton and his son Nic will be in attendance to watch the action while there will be several Formula One show cars in the paddock including examples driven by Lewis Hamilton and the late, great Ayrton Senna. These machines will also be accompanied by karts driven by Hamilton and Senna with other vehicles still to be confirmed.

A race simulator will be set-up in FKS race control while some of the organising team behind the Bahamas Speed Week will have a stand in the paddock on Saturday to provide information to drivers in Senior Rotax and MSA Cadet. On Saturday night there will be a ladies Race open to all karting mums, wives, girlfriends, sisters and even grandmothers while members of the British Historic Kart Club and the Legends of Karting will perform demonstration runs on track during the lunch break on both days.

Former FKS driver Daniel Lloyd will have his Porsche Carerra Cup car in the paddock while the Lohen MINI Challenge team will also be in attendance. The winner of the JC Motorhomes sponsored Smart Car prize will be announced and Formula Kart Stars have secured use of Whilton Mills corporate circuit on Sunday where arrive and drive sessions will be offered at a special rate of 5 for five minutes to give spectators and visitors a chance to try karting for themselves.

There will also be a special prize draw courtesy of Stilo crash helmets where one of the five drivers who win their final on Sunday will win a Stilo helmet and a personalised paint job from JLF Helmet Designs.

The top three in the MSA British Cadet, Mini Max and Junior Max Championships will win one of the much sought after TAG Heuer Watches (to be presented at the official championship presentation in January) and the top three finishers in Sundays final in Cadet Honda and Senior Rotax will also win one of the luxury timepieces.

All class champions will also receive one of the Formula Kart Stars steering wheel trophies, which will be presented to them on stage at the Autosport Awards in December.

We always try to make the last rounds of the season a little bit special but I feel that the Golden Helmet weekend will be the best yet, says Championship Director Carolynn Hoy. First and foremost it is where the drivers have their chance to shine and we want to attract as many spectators as possible to share their achievements after a long hard season of racing. Secondly we want to make the weekend as much fun as possible for all the families and friends who devote so much time and effort to our championship and I hope we can provide as much entertainment as possible.
