Tyco Suzuki's Josh Brookes scored his first double win of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship season as Alex Lowes claimed the final position as a Title Fighter in the Showdown ahead of the three round title decider which gets underway at Assen in two weeks time.
Brookes again hit the front of the field from the pole position ahead of Michael Laverty on the opening lap as the pair began their dice for supremacy in the second race of the day. The Samsung Honda rider then moved ahead with a move down the inside of Brookes at the Melbourne Hairpin on the opening lap, only for the Australian to regain the lead into the Fogarty Esses a lap later.
Laverty was piling on the pressure, snatching the lead again on the ninth lap at the Melbourne Hairpin, but Brookes was again pushing hard and made a move a few laps later at McLeans to regain the lead before defending hard until the finish. Brookes now lies ten points adrift of Tommy Hill ahead of the first Showdown round at Assen after the Swan Yamaha rider ended the second race in third place.
Tommy Bridewell put in a determined final two laps to snatch the fourth place from the WFR Honda pairing of Lowes and James Westmoreland who had both been pushing hard to make the Showdown. Lowes now lies fifth in the overall standings two points ahead of Bridewell. Stuart Easton had another top ten finish for Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki as Luca Scassa fended off Jon Kirkham and Chris Walker for eighth.
