FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) promoter Eurosport Events has announced that American motorsports channel Speed will air live coverage from the series' upcoming US event at Sonoma Raceway.
In addition to Speed's coverage of the Sonoma event on 23rd September, the network has also agreed to air highlights of the three remaining rounds of the 2012 WTCC.
According to an official press release the deal is 'seen as a breakthrough for domestic television coverage of the WTCC in the USA' and 'follows on from an existing season-long agreement to air 26-minute highlights of all WTCC rounds on Speed 2 and online'.
"WTCC is made for TV, action packed and nicely produced by Eurosport Events," said Speed Channel vice president of media relations. "Sonoma will offer a great theatre for the WTCCs first appearance in the USA. Im certain North American motorsport fans will enjoy WTCC on Speed Channel.
Eurosport Events head of media rights distribution Antonios Argyropoulos added, "Were delighted to have strengthened our relationship with Speed Channel and this is more great news for the WTCC Race of USA, which promises to be one of the highlights of the season..
