Historic win for AF Corse in the WEC Sao Paolo 6 Hours
After victories at Le Mans and Silverstone, the AF Corse crew of Gianmaria Bruni and Giancarlo Fisichella took a third consecutive win, in the Sao Paolo 6 Hours, totally dominating the LM GTE-PRO class in the No. 51 car. Throughout the race, they battled with the Darren Turner-Stefan Mucke Aston Martin, the win coming courtesy of their experience, a well thought out strategy featuring one stop less than their rivals and the sheer speed of the 458 Italia. An amazing win, commented Fisichella at the track where he took his maiden Formula 1 win back in 2003. That year, I was unable to experience the excitement of the podium, because of an error from the stewards which meant I was not confirmed as the winner until a week later. Now I can finally experience this amazing feeling thanks to a great job from AF Corse and my team-mate Gianmaria Bruni.Sao Paolo thus ticks another box in an error-free season, as Gianmaria Bruni explained. Right from the start, we knew we had a quick car, but with three wins in a row, it also confirms it is very reliable. We looked at consumption carefully and despite the presence of very strong opponents, we were able to take another really well deserved win.The No. 71 AF Corse Ferrari of Andrea Bertolini and Olivier Beretta finished fourth in GTE Pro, while in GTE AM, the No. 61 AF Waltrip car, crewed by Francisco Longo, Alexandre Negrao and Enrique Bernoldi, finished third. The next round of the WEC is the Bahrain 6 Hours in a fortnights time.
