Whale joins Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge GB

Harry Whale will make his debut in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge GB at Silverstone (6/7 October) as a toe-in-the-water exercise ahead of a proposed fuller campaign in 2013.Whale (23) is the son of established race and rally driver Nick, and has raced their 911 GT3 Cup car in four GT Cup races across the last two seasons. But now he will make his GT3 Cup Challenge debut as the series supports the British Touring Car Championship at Silverstone.Im really looking forward to it, said Warwick-based Whale. Ive been following the series with a lot of interest and it looks the perfect series for me to gauge where Im at in terms of pace and race craft. Im aiming to do more races in 2013.Whale will be racing the car originally campaigned by Mark Hazell in the Carrera Cup GB. Earlier this season it was used by James Birch as he established an early lead in the GT3 Cup Challenge. It will be tended by IN2 Racing.Harry followed his father into the sport and his first competitive event was Tour Britannia in 2009 when he co-drove in his fathers winning Porsche 911RS. Since then, he has tackled limited race programmes in a Ginetta G20, classic Ford Mustang and in the Fun Cup. In 2011 he was a GT Cup race winner in the 911 GT3 Cup and recently contested the Britcar 24-hour race at Silverstone in a BMW M3.Whale says that the 911 GT3 Cup car is perfect for him as he is 6ft5in tall. The Porsche is ideal for me as it is one of the few cars I really fit in. But Im the shortest one in the family as my dad is 6ft6in and my little brother is 6ft7in.
