FIA confirms promoters for rally championships

World motorsport's governing body, the FIA, confirmed on Friday that Red Bull Media House and The Sportman Media Group, a German and Austrian sports agency, will be the new promoters of the World Rally Championship.The contract, which was ratified by the FIA's World Motor Sport Council, will begin next year and appears to offer the troubled series some commercial stability following the collapse of previous promoter North One Sport earlier this year.An FIA statement said that Red Bull Media House, the energy drink company's dedicated content division, and The Sportsman would 'be responsible for investing and developing the WRC with a view to increasing its profile, reputation and commercial value'.

The FIA added that the implementation of live television and 'innovative digital media strategy' would be particular focuses in the coming years.The FIA World Motor Sport Council also confirmed that the the organisation has appointed Eurosport Events as the promoter of the FIA European Rally Championship for the next ten years.Eurosport Events already runs the Intercontinental Rally Championship and on Friday extended its agreement with the FIA to promote the World Touring Car Championship until 2017.The FIA has also appointed IMG as the promoter of the FIA European Rallycross Championship for a minimum of ten years. IMG has a mandate to make the series more attractive to drivers and spectators and to adapt the size of events to better suit television broadcasts.Source: SportsPro
