Tough Silverstone in prospect for Jordan and Pirtek Racing

The penultimate weekend in the 2012 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship promises to be a big challenge for Andrew Jordan and Pirtek Racing at the Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire (6/7 October).Rounds 25, 26 and 27 of the 30-race schedule take the teams to the home of British motor racing where the layout of the National circuit is widely expected to leave the Honda Civics struggling. It is a track where power is all important and the Honda drivers have little chance to exploit the fine handling ability of their cars.Winning the BTCC Independents Trophy remains Andrews main target for the season, and he says that the Silverstone weekend is going to be a case of damage limitation against his main rival, BMW driver Rob Collard.Andrew currently lies fourth in the overall standings, but recognises that the leading three drivers are effectively out of reach with six races to run. BTCC legends Gordon Shedden (336 points) Matt Neal (333), and Jason Plato (304) hold the top three places with Andrew fourth on 287. There is a 40-point gap from Andrew to his Independents Trophy rival Collard, but Andrew expects that Collard will be able to narrow the gap during the three races at Silverstone.Silverstone is going to be a real struggle and we need to go for damage limitation, admits Andrew. Collard will take points off us, so were just aiming to get through it with an okay points lead as well be strong again in the final race weekend at Brands Hatch two weeks later. At Silverstone, Copse, which is the first corner after the pits, is the only corner where we will be alright with the better handling of the Civic. Everywhere else will hurt us, particularly with the success penalty weight we will be carrying. Silverstone is all about straight-line speed, and that is where we will struggle. After qualifying on Saturday 6 October at 15.10, the first of three BTCC races will be at 11.45 on Sunday, with race two at 14.25 and race three at 17.15. All three races will be broadcast on ITV4 in a programme starting at 11.00. Qualifying will be broadcast live at www.itv.com and live results from the weekend will be available at www.tsl-timing.com
