Facu Regalia Monza review

Regalia finished 4th after a very difficult Race 1

A downpour at Monza just a minutes before of the race start caused that the safety car led the pack during the opening laps. After a few troublesome laps, Regalia overcame the circumstances and his race pace improved lap by lap, being 4th at the end and setting 2nd fastest lap.

Facu Regalia approached one of the most difficult races during his motorsport career, due to heavy rain falling at Monza just before the race start. Regalia, who planted his car third on the starting grid, completed the first laps with the safety car on track. After three laps, the safety car left the race and drivers could finally start at full speed. The young Argentine, driving his Campos Racings Dallara F312, struggled to stay on track but his performance improved some laps later. Now, with lighter rain, Regalia emerged as one of the fastest men at Monza, beating his previous time lap by lap. His fastest lap time finally was improved by Niccol Schir, the race winner, and the Argentine driver finished in 4th.

I think it was one of the most difficult races ever for me. After leaving the pit-lane, previous to race start, my car had no grip with plenty of aquaplaning and I almost hit the wall. The start, with safety car, was really difficult, because it wasnt impossible to see anything. I was overtaken by Schir at the beginning, because they used a high downforce set-up, and his teammate Raimondo as well. We and almost every driver were using a lower downforce set-up, and with heavy rain was a key factor helping them, Regalia explained. Then, the track conditions got better and my car competitiveness improved a lot. My lap times were really quick at the moment, but then there wasnt room to catch Schir, Grenhagen or Raimondo. Schir improved my best lap and I couldnt score this extra-point. For tomorrows race at Monza, the forecast announces rain but maybe lighter. Both my team and I are aiming to improve our 4th place today. Because after winning at Hungaroring, our result today isnt as good as expected, but we need to think positive, at least scored 12 points for the championship. Tomorrow we will fight once again.

A drive through penalty dashes Regalias chances to win Rac 2

The Argentine driver was running third when he was given a drive through penalty and went back to 14th place. This penalty was caused because a marshal reported that Campos Racing changed a tire on the starting grid when it wasnt permitted.

The Argentine driver was 4th during second qualifying session and, in race two finally in dry conditions, his options to fight for another podium finish were higher. At the beginning everything went according to plan and Regalia overtook Kevin Giovesi on the very first lap. Then, with both RP Motorsports drivers fighting each other, Regalia took the lead but Nicol Schir blocked him and gave no room so the Argentine driver flew over kerb. Despite this problem, being passed by four cars, Regalia was running in third once again when the race director gave him a drive through penalty. The cause for this penalty was because Campos Racing changed a tire on the starting grid when it wasnt permitted anymore.

Regalia explained later we didnt change the tire at all, but the marshal when noticed a mechanic working on it though so. He informed race director and I was given that penalty. I think my chances were really good today for winning my second race in 2012. In dry weather our race pace was pretty impressive and I would have taken the lead if Schir wouldnt block me. From 5th place, I managed to pass two other cars, battling with Grenhagen and, when I already caught Schir and Giovesi, I was penalized. In addition, he explained that Racing is like that, but we missed an incredible chance to win. There is another meeting left, at Circuit de Catalunya, and I think there our competitiveness will be very high, because at Monza a clear RPs circuit- we were able to challenge them for the lead.

Last 2012 venue is scheduled on November 3rd-4th at Circuit de Catalunya, the track based in Barcelona hosting the season finale for the series once again.Follow everything concerning Facus career in motorsport,
