Latest Bahamas Speed Week Developments‏

Event Director David McLaughlin is delighted to announce significant progress securing Corporate Partners and Official Suppliers for the 2012 Speed Week.

He said in Nassau last week prior to a short return to the UK "In a very difficult economic climate it is a testament to the Event and my Team that we have welcomed so many Partners back from our first year as well as many new companies who have seen the benefits which can be gained from being involved in such a promising International Sporting Event".

The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism are once again supporting Speed Week and of particular importance is that new Minister of Tourism Obie Wilchcombe has motivated his staff to create Hotel and Travel Packages which are intended to bring many more visitors to the Event.  Their work, allied to that of the New Paradise Island Promotion Board, has added an exciting dimension to Speed Week 2012.

Corporate Partners Shell, through their local partner Sun Oil, benefitted more than most last year by using footage taken on the 007 Island Tour in their TV advertisements and they are back in force. Pictet Bank & Trust are once again supporting the Speed Week Ball incorporating the Auction of Promises and we already have some stunning Auction prizes including the use of fabulous yachts from Mustang Racer Niels Jensen and Senor Frogs owner Arturo Salas, plus an exclusive fishing trip offered by Dodge Viper owner August Schnabel (seen elsewhere in this newsletter enjoying his boat during Speed Week last year).

The Garzaroli family, owners of the amazing Graycliff Hotel and Restaurant, are laying on another Party on Thursday evening and anyone who attended in 2011 will recall how exciting that was - trips around their cigar rolling factory were in great demand !

More announcements are imminent as companies join Youngs Champagne, Bahamas Fast Ferries, Oasis, Bahamas Waste Management and Schooner Bay plus a great number of Official Suppliers including Hilton, Sheraton, Breezes, JetBlue, Nassau Palm, American Airlines, Avis,  Bahamas Airport Advertising, The Bahamas Tourism Channel and Noble Wines amongst others.

More announcements are expected in the coming weeks as the excitement rises!

EXCITING NEWS ABOUT OUR CIRCUIT .........Work started last week on the resurfacing and widening of the Circuit. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Works Philip 'Brave' Davies is committed to finishing this work for Speed Week.  We intend to run small batches of cars starting together, four or possibly six at a time, in 'Demonstration Races'.  The Competitive Element will still be Single Cars against the clock but, due to the extended nature of the Circuit, will be held as a Pursuit Sprint with cars starting at ten second intervals.
