Honda aces ready for Silverstone BTCC challenge

Honda Yuasa Racing Team stars Gordon Flash Shedden and Matt Neal head to the penultimate round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Silverstone this weekend to defend their lead in the title race.Points leader Shedden and reigning champion Neal come into the weekend having won 12 of the 24 races held so far this season. Honda Yuasa Racing also leads the Teams championship, while Honda/Dynamics tops the Manufacturers/Constructors table and could clinch the title this weekend.Neal secured the 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship crown at Silverstone last season, but this time around he is concerned the simple National layout at the famous circuit, which is dominated by straights, will hinder the NGTC Civic.Because of its success so far in 2012, the Honda has been hit hard by the turbo boost equalisation regulations in the series, with rivals being allowed to run more boost. This has resulted in the Civics lacking speed in a straightline.Neal believes this will make it difficult for the Hondas to run at the front at Silverstone, which has few corners on which the brilliant Civic chassis can make up time. This is a meeting weve said will be tough all year, said the triple champion, who is still suffering with a hand injury he picked up in a road accident before the last round. Weve just got to make the most of the weekend.Shedden, who is three points ahead of Neal and 32 ahead of the nearest non-Honda driver in the standings, agrees Silverstone could be difficult.Weve got to get everything out of the chassis because we will struggle in a straight line, said the 33-year-old, who will also be carrying the maximum 45kg of success ballast into the weekend (with Neal on 36kg).The aim is to keep the championship lead. Im desperate to win this thing.Shedden also hopes the strong team work between himself and Neal will help them make the most of the Civic, which should be much better suited to the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit that hosts the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship finale later this month.Weve fought well as a pack this year and well continue to do so, he added. It would be nice to go to Brands Hatch with an advantage. The Silverstone action gets under way at 09:30am on Saturday with free practice. Qualifying is at 3:10pm, and the first of three races on Sunday is scheduled for 11:45am.As well as heading to the Northamptonshire circuit or watching ITV4s live coverage of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, fans can also follow the Honda Yuasa Racing Teams exploits on Facebook and Twitter for news and race results as the action happens - facebook.com/HondaRacingBTCC and twitter.com/hondaracingbtcc
