Jordan and Pirtek Racing bid for Independents glory
Victory in the Independents Trophy in the 2012 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship is the target for Andrew Jordan and Pirtek Racing during the final three races of the season at Brands Hatch (20/21 October). The final three races of the 30-race schedule take the teams to the famous Kent track where they will compete on the spectacular and challenging Grand Prix circuit, rated by many drivers as the best track on the schedule. It is a track where driving talent and a good handling car can really shine and Andrew expects the Pirtek Racing Honda Civic to be a strong contender.Winning the BTCC Independents Trophy continues to be Andrews target for the season, and he heads to Brands Hatch with a useful 28-point lead over BMW driver Rob Collard. But the pressure will be on both Andrew and the Pirtek team.Andrew currently lies fourth in the overall standings, and has a very slim chance of taking the title. But he recognises that the leading three drivers are effectively out of reach with three races to run. BTCC legends Gordon Shedden (364 points), Jason Plato (349) and Matt Neal (333) hold the top three places with Andrew fourth on 303.Going to Brands Hatch I think wed have been very strong on the turbo boost we were on at Silverstone, said Andrew. But we should now get something back after the Silverstone races and so we should be even stronger. We need to qualify well and get clear of the loose cannons in the midfield. I love the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit. Out at the back of the track its a really ballsy place with some quick corners and I love that. Our car will be very good there. Our target all year has been to win the Indy title, continued Andrew. I just want to get a solid first race and pull some more points ahead of Collard and then keep the momentum going through the rest of the day. But it will probably go down to the wire: these things usually do!After qualifying on Saturday 20 October at 14.55, the first of three BTCC races will be at 11.30 on Sunday, with race two at 13.55 and race three at 16.45. All three races will be broadcast on ITV4 in a programme starting at 11.00. Qualifying will be broadcast live at www.itv.com and live results from the weekend will be available at www.tsl-timing.com
