SCCA Pro Racing Mazda MX-5 Playboy Cup/Skip Barber MAZDASPEED Pro Challenge
As the last leg of the MAZDASPEED Pro Challenge approaches, the race remains tight between points leader Bryan Hixon and his contender David Knight.
A few weeks ago, racers from all over the country gathered for a very special race weekend in San Diego, California. The Cornado Speed Festival featured special events to honor American service men and women, including some hot laps with Skip Barber Racing School instructors.
For the third time this season, eighteen-year-old Kenton Koch started on the pole in the Skip Barber MAZDASPEED Pro Challenge. Koch capitalized on his starting position and led wire to wire.
The excitement was in the rest of the pack. MAZDASPEED Pro Challenge Championship points leader Bryan Hixon started in second. He chased Koch most of the race but could never get around him. Behind Hixon, David Knight kept the pressure on as he is battling for the points championship. Hixon had to pit late in the race dropping him to fifth. Knight finished second. Cal Meeker finished third.
The final of the MAZADASPEED Pro Challenge will be held in Braselton, Georgia, at Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta October 15-20.
