EASTBOURNE No.1 Joonas Kylamkorpi has elected to sit out British racing in 2013.The Finnish star became World Longtrack Champion for the third year in succession but suffered an injury-hit campaign after an early-season crash at Kings Lynn.Eagles boss Trevor Geer said: Joonas gave us plenty of notice of his plans for next year and that means we are able to carefully consider the options available to us.Joonas is one of the most spectacular riders in speedway and we will miss him setting Arlington alight with his distinctive style. We wish him the very best in 2013 and hope he can repeat his success in the Longtrack series.

SCUNTHORPE skipper Ashley Birks has spoken of his pride in lifting the Premier League Championship trophy earlier this week.Birks took over the Scorpions captaincy after David Howe was injured earlier in the season, and the club overcame Somerset by a single point in a dramatic play-off Final.Birks said: It was fantastic to hold that trophy aloft. I only started riding speedway around three years ago and soon became a Scunthorpe asset. To be involved in championship-winning sides in the National League last year and then the Premier League this year, its been just brilliant, you cant ask for any better than that.
