V8 Ute Series At Winton Raceway

1)    Layton Leadfoot Crambrook holds the Lap record for Winton set in Race One, 2008 in a time of 1:39.2946.

2)    Warren Luff set the first lap record in 2002 in a time of 1:41.68 and broke it again in 2003 by .47tenths of a second and held it until 2008.

3)    The V8 Utes have raced at Winton Raceway six times in their ten years as a Series, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

4)    This is the V8 Utes Penultimate Round for the 2012 Auto One V8 Ute Racing Seriesprotected by Armor All. There are still 11 drivers in with a fighting chance including Ryal Harris, David Sieders, Nathan Pretty, Andrew Fisher, Rhys McNally, Kris Walton, Ryan Hansford, Cameron McConville, Craig Dontas, Kim Jane and Gary Baxter. 

Gold Coaster Ryal Harris leads the ENZED Drivers Championship by 38 points over David Sieders and 65 points ahead of local Nathan Pretty in third. There is a total of 140 points up for grabs over the weekend and 280 points left for the round.

The V8 Utes point system awards the top three place getters with bonus points. First place will receive 35 points, second place 33 points, third place 31 points and fourth place 29 points; it then reduces one point for every position to 32nd place.

5)    Two drivers in the current Series competed in the first V8 Ute appearance at Winton in 2002 they include; Jack Elsegood Noel Edge. Half the field of 16 drivers have not competed in a V8 Ute at Winton Raceway before. 

6)    Three times Winton podium winner, Gary Baxter is the only driver to have raced at Winton Raceway on four and two wheels, anti-clockwise and clockwise and on the old and new track. 

7)    In 2008 New Zealand driver, Chris Pither qualified in the top ten but received a late last minute call up from Team Kiwi Racing to drive their V8 Supercar, which prevented him from taking his spot on the grid for Race One of the V8 Utes. However, he went on to win the Series last year and put in place the Chris Pitherpowered by Ice Break Scholarship, with the recipient local Tom Williamson this round. Williamson raced the Ute for the first time at Bathurst and will make his second appearance at Winton.

8)    Local team manager, Wayne Williams is preparing six of the V8 Utes including; Gary Baxter, Todd Zani, Sean Carter, locals Hayley Swanson and Matthew Chahda and Auto One Wildcard driver Jason Bargwanna.

9)    Winton Raceway was a come-back round for a few of the drivers over the years in 2009 Jack Elsegood took out the Round, which put him in the front to claim the series title. In the same year  Grant Grunta Johnson also made a return after he wrote off his car at Round 1 at Clipsal 500 and placed fourth at Winton and went on to claim second overall in the 2009 Series. He also moved into the Series lead in 2010 after claiming the round and went on to win the year.

10)    Jack Elsegood had almost a clean-sweep of the Round in 2009 taking out the Armor All Pole Award, Race 1, Race 3 and the Round before moving on to take out the Series at the end of the year.

11)     Every time the V8 Utes have raced at Winton theyve posted a different round winner. Winners include; Grant Johnson (2010), Jack Elsegood (2009), Gary Baxter (2008), Damien White (2004), David Griffith (2003) and Gary MacDonald who claimed the first Winton round in 2002.

12)    Drivers such as Allan Grice, TV Host Grant Denyer, V8 Supercar Endurance Champion, Warren Luff and country singer Adam Brand have all raced a V8 Ute at Winton Raceway.

13)    Warren Millet missed the Winton Round in 2009 due to brain-tumour surgery. Thanks to renowned surgeon Charlie Teo, he is back racing with us today.
