Champion racing driver Ahmad Al Harthy proudly received the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Pro-Am1 winners trophy on Saturday, 10th November, after returning to the UK for the annual championship awards evening at Whittlebury Hall near Silverstone.Muscat-based Ahmad, who memorably sealed the 2012 crown with one race meeting to spare last month after a truly sensational campaign, produced a near faultless season in Porsche Carrera Cup GB with an incredible tally of wins and podiums.Taking 12 Pro-Am 1 victories and 17 podiums in total from the championships 20 races, the Oman Air, Oman Ministry of Sports Affairs, Oman Ministry of Tourism, Nawras, National Bank of Oman and Muscat Eye Laser Centre-supported driver truly was a star performer season-long.Its nice to finally get my hands on the big trophy, and what a fantastic trophy it is!, said the 31-year-old, We worked so, so hard this year to win the championship and I honestly couldnt have asked for more from the guys at Redline Racing who run the Oman Air Racing Team.My car was perfect all year, we all had maximum commitment all season and to win the title with one race meeting to spare was more than we thought possible at the beginning of the year. Taking so many wins and podiums was amazing.Most importantly for Ahmad, his title success marked the first ever for an Omani driver at such a high level of motor racing and he also entered the history books as the first person of Arab origin to win a championship in a series the stature of Porsche Carrera Cup GB.The awards evening was a wonderful occasion, very prestigious and in a great setting too, he added, Porsche Carrera Cup GB really is an amazing championship and it makes me immensely proud to have won the Pro-Am 1 title for everyone back home in Oman.
