Mario Cordoni enjoys superb 2012 GT Sprint season

RUNNING FOR ITALIAN-BASED TEAM OMBRA RACING OUTFIT, CORDONI WON THE GTS3 TITLE, ENDING UP AS A RUNNER-UP IN THE OVERALL SERIES

It's been an extremely positive rookie season for Mario Cordoni in the 2012  GTSPRINT INTERNATIONAL SERIES. Driving a Ferrari 458 Italia for Team Ombra Racing, the Italian tamed a tough opposition to win the GTS3 class championship and also ended up second in the overall standings.

After having made his debut at Imola in Round 2 of the FG GROUP-promoted series, Cordoni hit the top immediately by cruising to a double class win and as the season progressed, he achieved the same feature at the Hungaroring and at Spa-Francorchamps.

The Team Ombra Racing-prepared Ferrari hit the podium in each race (except for Race 1 at Vallelunga) and scored six wins, one second place and four third place finishes in class. For the Piedmont-based man, the 2012 season was capped by sensational overall win at Spa-Francorchamps.

GTSPRINT is an exciting and hard-fought series - told Cordoni - definitely it has great media coverage and that's the reasons making it a benchmark in international competition. The attendance is top-notch as well with a lot of people coming on-track to see the races. I was particularly surprised with the number of fans both in the paddocks and on the grandstands. The crowd at the Hungaroring was particularly impressive, I didn't think that GTSPRINT had such a massive following there. Having scored the GTS3 title has been fantastic but I was even more satisfied for our second place overall as I put some really fast GTS2 drivers behind. For next year I hope to be back to GTSPRINT and I look forward to stay with Ombra Racing
