Star driver Tonio Liuzzi reflects on successful Superstars season

FORMER F.1 RACER ENDS UP 2012 SEASON AS A RUNNER-UP IN THE V8 TOURING CAR SERIES WITH A WORKS-SUPPORTED MERCEDES C63 AMG

Just one month after the end of the 2012 season, SUPERSTARS INTERNATIONAL SERIES star driver Tonio Liuzzi assessed the results of his maiden run in the series, after having been one of the main characters in the chase for the title. The Pescara-based man scored some great results, including a win and a second-place finish in Hungary, a double podium at Spa-Francorchamps and a third place at Donington Park. Liuzzi performed great on home soil too with a win at Monza. Fielded by Italian squad Caal Racing aboard a Mercedes C63 AMG, he stayed a contender for title until the final race, where a third-place finish in Race 1 proved not enough to seal the deal.

What's the balance of your 2012 season?

It's been a very positive experience an I had lots of fun. SUPERSTARS left me really impressed, mainly thanks to the promoter that developed an extremely high-level championship with a stunning roster featuring the best men in racing. I'm a little bit bitter for how it ended up - a title would have made this season perfect.

What has been your favourite racetrack this season?

With no doubt, Spa-Francorchamps, which is one of my all-time favourites. The rain that fell over the weekend made the races even more fascinating and exciting. It's exactly in these circumstances that you see the real potential of a driver. We did the best we could and enjoyed some positive results a third and a second place finish.

Who has been you toughest rival?

There are many valuable and very experienced racers in SUPERSTARS like Herbert, Fittipaldi, Salo, Morbidelli and Biagi. But I have been impressed by how Kristoffersson tamed his super-fast Audi RS5 and stayed consistent in terms of results over the year.

What are your plans for the future?

I would rather be back in SUPERSTARS. The series required me some real commitment this season and rewarded me with some great satisfactions. I have no plans for 2013 though, as I might find a way back to Formula 1 in these few months.
