The lone female in the Masters, Amanda Sparks has more than proven her place in what continues to be a male dominated sport, where females are slowly but surely setting the men in their place through skill, determination, passion and strength of character, Sparks having seen great development and great success during four years in the series.
Describing herself as determined, passionate and happy, Sparks has been nominated for recognition as one of Australias Top 100 Sportswomen, an accolade that would be well deserved, having secured the 2011 Touring Car Masters Class A title, setting her as the first female to secure Australian national titles in both race and tarmac rally.
Among Sparks achievements in motor sport are: 2011 Touring Car Masters Class A Champion Porsche Club of SA 2008/09 Club Champion Porsche Club of SA 2007/08 2008/09 Female Champion 2007 Duttons Tarmac Rally Outright Champions (and first female) 5th outright (and first placed female) in inaugural Legends of the Lake Hillclimb (approx 150 competitors) 1st female to complete a Porsche Cup Car track day
Of her nomination in the Sport for Women awards, Sparks said,
Its great to see this dedicated support for women as its much harder to be recognised in sport, with your achievements having to be at a greater level to get the same recognition.
It can be a much tougher road to get to the pinnacle, so to be supported in being treated equally and recognised on the same playing field, its a needed initiative and Im thrilled to be on the nominee list as Im proud of what Ive achieved and hope that others can be happy for me too.
