The 2012 Motor Show has been a very exciting one in Bologna, as promising Giovanni Berton took a spectacular win in the SUPERSTARS INTERNATIONAL SERIES race at the historical Area 48 circuit. In front of a warm crowd, Berton beat his Team BMW Dinamic team-mate Thomas Biagi to tame the demanding Motor Sport Arena and honour the Bavarian-based manufacturer that he represented so well during the season.Once again Biagi provided his home fans with an excellent performance, although he was prevented to repeat his 2011 win. The final proved amazing, and while the Bologna-based men beat Berton by 1.8 seconds at the end of the first run, the Venetian rebounded in the second, securing the trophy by clocking the fastest lap of the day (37.34).In qualifying, Biagi emerged as the men to beat by lapping in 38.284, before defeating Berton in the quarter finals. In the semi finals, he stayed strong as he defeated Alessandro Kouzkin on the Caal Racing-prepared Mercedes C63 AMG. The Russian youngster, born in 1992, fought back to win the final for third place from driver and team owner Gianni Giudici, who drove his BMW M3 to a positive overall run. Giudici had made it through the quarters to beat the Chrysler 300C SRT8 of Alessandro Battaglin before having to settle in the semis against Berton.
Alessandro Nannini also provided the fans with a great show. Fielded by Scuderia Giudici on another BMW M3 E92, the renowned F.1 star logged some fast laps in the mornings before ending up into the barriers. Diego Romanini also suffered from some adverse fortunes on the Lexus ISF fielded by the MRT team, as well as "The Climber", whose Caal Racing Mercedes fell victim of a gearbox failure. Another BMW, lined-up for Alessandro Battaglin, was eliminated in the quarter finals despite having given Giudici a really hard time on-track.
