Chevrolet receives awards at FIA gala

Eight-year WTCC participation ends with 68 wins in 178 races

Chevrolet yesterday celebrated a successful 2012 World Touring Car Championship season, receiving the Manufacturers World Champion trophythe third in a rowat the FIA Prize Giving Gala ceremony in Istanbul.

Rob Huff received his trophy as Drivers World Champion, having preceded his Chevrolet teammates Alain Menu and Yvan Muller, who came in second and third respectively and completed a clean sweep for the boys in blue.

This was the second year running that the trio claimed the top three spots in the series and the third time a Chevrolet driver claimed the crownMuller won the title with Chevrolet in 2010 and 2011.

Vijay Iyer, Director Communications at Chevrolet and Cadillac Europe, received the Manufacturers trophy for Chevrolet and the RML-run Cruzes.

The traditional Fdration Internationale de lAutomobile (FIA) Gala brings together champions from every major branch of international motor sports events, from Formula One, to the WTCC, junior formulae and karting, apart from  honouring outstanding achievers.

The star-studded event took place in the historic Kempinski Ciragan Palace on the Bosporus and followed the FIAs World Council and General Assembly.

The ceremony was a perfect end to Chevrolets eight-year journey in the WTCC, which resulted in tremendous track results; 68 race wins, 36 pole positions and 61 fastest laps in 178 races.

The WTCC experience also helped boost Chevrolets brand image and contributed to selling more than 1.7 million Cruzes since the car was launched in 2009.
