BOLOGNA-BASED RACER AWARDED AS TOP BMW AMBASSADOR OF 2012 AFTER SUCCESSFUL SUPERSTARS CAMPAIGN
The 2012 edition of the BMW SPORTS TROPHY AWARD ceremony has been one to remember for Thomas Biagi. The BMW-promoted competition celebrated its 51st anniversary this season and the Italian-based racer, a double SUPERSTARS champion in 2010 and a key man in the 2012 teams' title win by Team Dinamic, proved the man of the night in Munich. Thanks to the results scored in this season's SUPERSTARS INTERNATIONAL SERIES, Biagi made it to the BMW Sportpokal final and then prevailed over the other finalists, receiving the top award which included a test-drive with this season's championship-winning BMW M3 DTM. The prize was delivered by BMW Motorsport's Director Jens Marquardt and by Alessandro Zanardi, who also interviewed Biagi on-stage."I want to thank Roberto Ravaglia and Team Roal Motorpsorts, - said Biagi, who joined forces with the Italian squad to win the 2012 Italian GT Championship - as well as Team Dinamic for having allowed me to be here. This is the best possible way to end an extremely successful 3-year stint with BMW to cap three titles, many wins and a lot of podium finishes. I dreamed this DTM prize test and now the dream is coming true. I thank BMW Motorsport for giving me this chance. It's the best Christmas present I could ever get.Its been a major achievement, in a contest involving BMW drivers and ambassadors from all over the world. For the 2012 edition, 243 names were on the list representing 24 nations and 47 championships.
More BMW-powered drivers were awarded in the same occasion, including Norbert Michelisz. The Hungarian racer made his SUPERSTARS INTERNATIONAL SERIES debut this season behind the wheel of a Scuderia Giudici-prepared BMW M3, and scored third place at Budapest. The 28-year-old man ended up in third place in the BMW Sports Trophy Award, collecting a 21.000 bonus.
