MSA confirms homologation regulations for new kart classes

The Motor Sports Association (MSA) has confirmed the homologation regulations that will come into effect on 1 January 2013 to govern the introduction of new non-gearbox Junior and Senior kart classes from 1 January 2014.

Rob Jones, MSA General Secretary and Kart Committee Chairman, said: The recent Karting Review revealed that the existing regulations for the introduction of new kart classes were far too loose, to the extent that the Motor Sports Council suspended them for the past two years while a new structure was designed. That structure is now complete and in essence means that new classes will only be agreed by the MSA on three-year cycles and in accordance with a rigorous homologation process. The new process will ensure stability in the sport, which will of course be of benefit to competitors.

The General Regulations that underpin the new homologation process can be found in the 2013 MSA Yearbook at (U)1.2. The new Kart Class Homologation Regulations can be obtained from the MSA Technical Department by emailing joe.hickerton@msauk.org
