Turner Motorsports renamed as Scott increases stake

Nascar team Turner Motorsports has confirmed that Harry Scott Jr. has become a co-owner of the team, having previously been only a minority shareholder.

Although no precise shareholding details or financial information was revealed in Friday's announcement, the team said Scott Jr. will step up to become co-owner of the team alongside Steve Turner. The team will be renamed Turner Scott Motorsports.

Scott was previously a sponsor of the team in its previous guise, Braun Racing, in 2009 before Turner Motorsports acquired the organisation. The team won the 2012 Nascar Camping World Truck Series and will defend its title in 2013 with James Buescher again at the wheel.

It is also poised to confirm its Nascar Nationwide Series plans for 2013 in the coming weeks.

Harry becoming a co-owner is very positive for this organisation as a whole, said Steve Turner.

This team has grown and accomplished so much in the last few years, and it is still continuing to grow. Harry has been committed to our racing programme, its drivers and our sponsors for several years, and he is a vital part of our organisation."

Under a new management structure Scott will be in charge of the team's marketing, public relations and business development divisions, with Turner managing the sporting side of the team.
