Stone Brothers Racing (SBR) has been renamed Erebus Motorsport after the team's founders, Ross and Jimmy Stone, announced the sale of their team and racing licence. The team has been sold to Betty Klimenko, a Sydney-based property director who already owns a team in the Australian GT championship. She is also credited with attracting Mercedes-Benz to the V8 Supercar series for 2013. The newly-named Erebus Motorsport V8 team will race with Mercedes cars.Klimenko is in the process of purchasing one of Stone Brothers Racings entitlement contracts, the V8 Supercars licensing system, and will lease the other for the next two years before acquiring it on 1st January 2015.
Ross Stone, who will remain team principal, said that it was an appropriate moment to relinquish ownership of the team after 18 seasons. He said: Jimmy and I believe the timing is right and Betty and Erebus Motorsport have provided us with an opportunity to ensure that it continues racing for many more years to come."Meanwhile, with just weeks left until the first race of the championship, the series appears to be edging towards a new domestic television deal, an agreement key to the category's financial health.A report by the Australian Financial Review said two broadcasters, Seven and Ten, remain in the frame for the rights. However it added that it was now possible the deal will only run for two years, rather than the long-term agreement the series had originally hoped for.
