American racer joins JTR for Formula Ford

Camren Kaminsky is the first of JTRs trio of Mygale racersNineteen-year-old from Arizona is Pacific F2000 vice-champion

Promising USA driver Camren Kaminsky has signed with reigning champion team JTR to contest the forthcoming Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain. The 19-year-old Arizonan will be part of a three-car campaign from JTR aimed at retaining the championship title.

Former karter Kaminsky heads for Europe following success in the Pacific F2000 Series in the States; he claimed second overall in the championship in 2012 with five podium finishes for the PR1 Motorsports team.

Kaminsky is relishing the challenges ahead mastering the new Formula Ford EcoBoost 200: With the new revolution of the Formula Ford race-car for 2013, I thought it would be the perfect category for me to race in. Teaming up with JTR for the season is an amazing opportunity and a perfect match. I am looking forward to competing in a competitive field and furthering my skills to pursue a professional career in motor-sports.

JTR team boss Nick Tandy believes Kaminsky will be a key member of the teams battle to retain the championship. Camren came to us via an introduction from a mutual friend, Mark Blundell, and he is an exciting prospect with some good results under his belt at home.

We will be running at least three cars in Formula Ford and it is very much our intention to take up where we left off, gunning for race wins and bidding for another championship. Well be pushing just as hard as is possible for that. Hopefully Camren will fare as well, or even better, than JTRs last American driver.

JTR guided the early career of Josef Newgarden, the Tennessee-based racer who won nine races but narrowly missed out on the 2009 Formula Ford title. Newgarden progressed to win the Indy Lights series in 2011 and is now an established IndyCar star.

JTR scored nine race wins in the 2012 Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain, with team leader Antti Buri taking eight of those victories and claiming the title by a good points margin to end a seven-year success run by the Jamun Racing team.

JTR is to stay loyal to French chassis-builder Mygale, whose cars it has used since 2006, when Tandy was himself a Formula Ford racer.

The Formula Ford EcoBoost 200 is the quickest junior single-seater in the UK thanks to its remapped 1.6-litre turbocharged engine producing in excess of 200 PS. The chassis is equipped with a fully adjustable aerodynamic package, FIA safety compliant chassis, Formula 3-specification six-speed sequential gearbox and on-board data logging and track mapping.

Formula Ford has signed to support the UKs premier motorsport package, the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, for the next three seasons. The deal includes live TV at each of the 10 events, broadcast on ITV4. The opening rounds are at Brands Hatch over Easter.
