10th FEBRUARY
"HIMX have decided to make this year's event a tribute to Georges Job.
As soon as the death of motocross legend Georges Job was announced, people were contacting us by phone and email asking us to do something in his honour. Many remember Job for the spectacular double jump he did over Andr Malherbe at the 500cc GP at Hawkstone Park in 1984, and have been asking us to re-create the double jump and naming it the 'Job Jump'. We do like the idea, but we have to consider safety, as well as the fact that a young rider had a fatal accident in that area in 2005, so we also need to take his family's feelings into account.
Starting this year, we will have the 'Georges Job Memorial Trophy' which will be handed to the winner of the MX1/MX2 final. This perpetual trophy has been chosen by Job's son Vic and daughter Mat, from Georges private trophy collection. His son and daughter are attending the event, and will present the trophy to the winner on the day.
Artist Rob Kinsey, who made a painting of the double jump, is also giving a print of the painting to the winner of the final.
As many people don't know exactly where the double jump was, we will mark the area with a banner with the picture of the jump, taken by Nick Haskell. Alan Bott, of Pemberton Tyres, who travelled to Belgium in March last year to give the original painting to Job, will be sponsoring this area.
There are other ideas we are working on, to make it a fitting tribute to a Hawkstone legend."
Preparations for the Hawk International are well underway now, the track is looking good and the long range forecast is also looking dry.
