Andre Gomes Wins The Inaugural Skip Barber Racing School INDYCAR Academy Shootout

Andre Gomes (pictured here with Skip Barber instructor Bruce MacInnes) is a 25-year-old computer technician currently living in Nashua, New Hampshire. He is also the first Skip Barber Racing School INDYCAR Academy Shootout Champion.

He will receive a sponsored ride in either the 2013 summer Skip Barber Regional Race Series presented by Mazda, with the opportunity to climb the Mazda Road to Indy ladder to the IZOD IndyCar Series.

Today, Bryan Herta also announced that the winner will be given a hospitality and garage pass to be part of the Barracuda Networks team for this year's INDY 500. So Andre Gomes will receive a garage tour from Mr. Herta himself, meet the Barracuda Networks team's driver before the race and be on the starting grid.

The drivers received a maximum of 70 points for each of their 4 on-track sessions. Those points were awarded based on the fastest lap that session, which received 35 points, and the fastest average lap that session, which received 35 points. After the top spot, points descended for the rest of the group the same way they would in a Skip Barber Race Series event. Points were deducted for "four-offs," spins and crashes.

An additional 70 points was available based on the evaluation of the world-famous Skip Barber Racing School instructors. Their points were awarded based on the driver's attitude, desire, and ability to apply feedback, to name a few off the long list of criteria.

With the first INDYCAR Academy in the books, the next INDYCAR Academy opens its doors for a new set of candidates looking to become the next IZOD IndyCar Series champion. Interested individuals can call 800.221.1131 to talk to a School and Series Advisor.
