Sky Deutschland secures further three-year Formula One contract

Sky Deutschland has secured the pay television rights to Formula One in Germany for the next three seasons.The deal complements the existing free-to-air live coverage of the sport in Germany, which will be split between RTL and Sport1 in 2013.Sky Deutschland has held pay-television rights in Germany for some years but has signed only single-year agreements for the past two seasons.

"I am delighted that our partnership continues with Sky into the future," said Formula One chief executive Bernie Ecclestone.The latest deal includes comprehensive, interactive, live coverage of practice, qualifying and every race. The broadcaster offers the same multi-channel coverage Sky provides in the UK. A similar pay-television offering is being rolled out by Sky in Italy for the 2013 season.Sky Italia will broadcast every race live, with nine races set to be picked up by a free-to-air broadcaster, mirroring the set up in the UK where the BBC broadcasts half the races live and Sky the full season.
