Tom Cave honoured with two BTRDA Special Awards

Welsh rally driver Tom Cave has been honoured with the presentation of two special awards by the British Trial and Rally Drivers Association, the BTRDA. Cave won the 2011 BTRDA Rally Production Cup and the Junior Driver titles and was presented with the two special awards at the 2013 gala lunch in London.

The first of the two honours was the Stross Rally Trophy, awarded annually to the BTRDA member achieving the best performance or individual result on any International or National Special Stage Rally Championship or Event.

In 2012, 20 year-old Tom won two rounds of the MSA British Rally Championship on his way to becoming runner-up in the series to double champion Keith Cronin and the recipient of the Stross Trophy was recommended by the BTRDA Rally Committee. Previous winners of the award include National Champion Damian Cole and VW works WRC driver, Jari-Matti Latvala.

The second award for Tom was the Jack Twyford Trophy, awarded annually to the highest-placed BTRDA member driving on the British round of the World Rally Championship or otherwise any event in the British Rally Championship.

Tom, who was the only Welsh driver to contest the 2012 Wales Rally GB, recorded his best WRC finish on the event, completing in 14th place overall at the wheel of the works Proton Motorsports Satria Neo S2000. He also claimed second in the SWRC category, behind now-works Peugeot driver, Craig Breen.

Commenting, Tom said; "I am extremely honoured to be presented with these two awards by the BTRDA. I was very pleased to win the 2011 Production Cup and Junior Driver awards in the BTRDA Rally series and I am proud to continue to be a member of the organisation that has helped me enormously to progress in the sport.

"I am also humbled to be in the same company as the former winners of the awards, such as Jari-Matti, who has gone on to become one of the fastest and brightest stars of the sport. If I can achieve part of what he has, then I will be extremely happy."

Tom's rally campaign gets going again in April, when he returns to the MSA British Rally Championship, with the sole aim of becoming 2013 champion.
