BEN Barker took the major honours in Somersets inaugural Winter Cracker meetingthe event going ahead at the third time of asking in front of a big crowd at the Oak Tree Arena.Barker headed the scorechart along with Ryan Fisher after 20 heats, and then won the Final ahead of the American with Richard Hall third in front of Simon Lambert.Meeting co-ordinator Garry May said: Ben was a worthy winner of the meeting, but Ryan certainly made him work for his victory, their clash in Heat 17 being probably the race of the night. Overall, I thought that the fans were treated to some excellent racing on a superbly prepared track, and although we had to wait some six weeks later than we originally intended to run the meeting, it was definitely worth the wait as all 16 riders played their part in making the meeting a success and keeping the large crowd thoroughly entertained.

LEICESTER have agreed a deal to purchase the contract of Simon Nielsen from Kings Lynn. The Dane will be back with the Lions this season after seeing his 2012 campaign curtailed by injury, and will join his fellow countryman Jan Graversen in becoming a club asset.Leicester promoter David Hemsley said: In his short time at the club I saw enough of Simon to know that he has the potential to further his career. He is an out and out team man, thinks tactically, and looks out for his race partner whenever he can. I would like to thank Jonathan Chapman at Kings Lynn for making the transfer possible.(SPEEDWAY 3)
