Oli Basey-Fisher Joins Champion Team Academy For Ginetta Challenge

Oli Basey-Fisher has officially confirmed a move into the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge for his second season of car racing this year, having joined reigning champion team Academy Motorsport.Stepping up from the sister Ginetta Junior Championship, where he concluded his debut campaign in cars ninth overall in the standings, the 17-year-old from Great Finborough has justifiably high hopes of continued progression in a more powerful version of the Ginetta G40 he raced in 2012.Becoming a podium finisher on his very first weekend in Ginetta Junior at Brands Hatch last April, Oli was a consistent front-runner during the year and added to his podium tally during the three-round Winter Series in Novemberjust missing out on a top three championship finish in the process.Able to make the move into car racing at the start of last year by way of winning the Ginetta Junior Scholarship, the Century Logistics-backed youngster is now aiming to build on everything he learned to become a major threat in the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge.

After winning the Ginetta Junior Scholarship and having such a fantastic year in 2012, Ive been wanting to progress up the Ginetta ladder to help further my racing career, said Oli, After only a year in Ginetta Junior, the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge was the natural choice.Im delighted to be running with Academy Motorsport this year and I cant wait for the season to get underway. Matt [Nicholl-Jonesteam principal] runs a fantastic team, the professionalism is just outstanding so I really am looking forward to a very strong season.While the Ginetta G40 Junior car Oli piloted in 2012 and the standard G40 he will race this season look identical, the unrestricted G40 produces an additional 65bhp from its 1.8-litre, four cylinder Ford Zetec engine.Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge features three races per weekend and runs as a support category to the Avon Tyres British GT Championship and also the Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series.Oulton Park in Cheshire will host the opening event of the season over Easter weekend, 30th/31st  March, with the championship reaching a conclusion at Donington Park in the East Midlands on 5th/6th October.
