Castle Combe welcomes British Cycling Talent Programme

Castle Combe Circuit might be recognised for petrol power rather than pedal power and with a full programme of motor racing events planned for 2013, there is still much motor sport to be had. This Wiltshire based circuit however isseeing a growing trend in cycling events as the 1.85 mile tarmac track is proving an ideal traffic freetraining facility for cyclists of all levels. Tuesday 19th February saw the national governing body for cycling, British Cycling, hire the track for a National School of Racing Coaching Session.Event organiser Andy Cook commented: "I have been running cycling activities at the circuit for many years now and can only reiterate how fabulous the facilities are for all cyclists whatever your age or ability."We have seen around 100 cyclists aged under 16 years come here from across the whole of the south of England to partake in cycling trainingspecifically developed by British Cycling for the stars of the future."British Cycling has been running this programme for over 10 years to identify young cyclists destined for greater cycling success. You only haveto look at Team GB performances in the Olympics to see how this grass roots development is already reaping rewards."Looking out at the circuit, you wonder which one of these kids will perhaps be the Bradley Wiggins or Lizzie Armistead of the future. What you can say though is that all are receiving world class coaching at this great venue. It can only help develop cycling as a sport."Castle Combe Circuit is hoping to welcome British Cycling back to the circuit throughout 2013. In the interim however, it will also be welcomingAndy Cook Cycling Training Evenings on Tuesdays and Andy Cook Race Evenings on Thursdays from early April through to September 2013.The Circuit will also once again be hosting the Castle Combe Cycling Festival and Severn Bridge Sportive on Sunday 2nd June 2013.
