BIG EVENT LATESTBRITISH Youth co-boss Neil Vatcher has praised riders and track staff for ensuring last weekends Under-21 semi-final at Plymouth went ahead. The remaining seven riders for the Final at Dudley on April 23the first major SpeedwayGB event of the seasonwere confirmed at the St Boniface Arena with the meeting brought to a half after 16 heats due to the curfew.Danny Stoneman, Oliver Greenwood and Darryl Ritchings led the way on ten points, with Dan Greenwood, Josh Bates and Max Clegg also making it through one eightwhilst Buxtons Matt Williamson marked his first competitive meeting by taking the final qualifying place. Kings Lynns Shane Hazelden and Berwick asset Liam Carr will be reserves.Vatcher said: All credit must go to the Plymouth track staff, for getting a very wet track ready. After cancelling their own practice day for the Plymouth riders in the afternoon, they did a great job to get the track ready for the 7pm start time of this prestigious meeting so early in the season. Also credit to all 18 riders for completing 16 races in what were not ideal conditions. The Young Brits all put in great effort to try and score enough points to guarantee their place in the Final. The Isle of Wights Darryl RItchings and Danny Stoneman were the early leaders, with the two Greenwoods, Dan and Oliver, looking to be on the pace as well.Matt Williamson, who was racing in his first-ever competitive speedway meeting, set himself up nicely by winning his first two races in Heats 4 and 5.Young racers Max Clegg and Josh Bates also rode with their heads to amass enough points to make their British Under-21 Final debuts next month. After a number of fallers and re-runs the meeting come to a halt after Heat 16 when all riders had four rides, as it had reached the 9.30pm curfew, and six of the seven qualifiers had won two of their four rides.Matt qualified on seven points, just out-doing Shane Hazelden on count-back as Williamson had beaten him on the head-to-head, after they had both scored exactly the same. The seven qualifiers from Plymouth join the nine seeded riders for the Monmore Green-staged Final, where a new name will be added to the trophy.BRITISH UNDER-21 FINAL SEEDS: Kyle Howarth (Poole/Workington), Jason Garrity (Rye House), Tom Perry (Somerset/Isle of Wight), Ashley Morris (Workington/Dudley), Stefan Nielsen (Somerset/Mildenhall), Joe Jacobs (Glasgow/Coventry), James Sarjeant (Coventry), Ben Morley (Kent), Robert Branford (Unattached).
