Kuala Lumpur post Sprint Race Quotes

Coletti, Nasr and Evans discuss their race

GP2 Series: Stefano, you told us yesterday that you wanted to win today. Job done!Stefano Coletti: It feels great! Yesterday, we saw that we had trouble with the tyres during the race and we managed to work on the car last night and we found what the problem was. We solved it for today.GP2 Series: You had an amazing start. How was it from the car?Stefano: I did one of my best starts ever I think. I almost stalled thats why I had no wheel spin at all and thats why the start was so good. I braked on the normal line because no one was there and I took the outside and I saw that Richelmi was a bit slow on the inside so I decided to go on the power a bit earlier and I was on the inside for turn2. Thats how I got in the lead. After that I pushed really hard for the first three or four laps to build a gap. I knew I had to save my tyres. I did not want things to turn like they did yesterday. So, I just controlled all the time, being nice on the tyres and not pushing too hard. As soon as I saw Felipe pushing hard behind me and catching up, I decided to pick up the pace for the final two laps and maintain the gap.GP2 Series: You looked exhausted on the podium...Stefano: I think we all were exhausted. It was really hot out there and very difficult especially when you have to think about the tyres and concentrate on doing everything right because any little mistake can destroy your tyres and the race can be over. So its really not easy in the heat!GP2 Series: One pole. One podium. One win. Almost the perfect weekend for you here.Stefano: Almost. I think the aim for next round is to be on the top step of the podium in Race 1 and I think we have the car to do it. Were going to work really hard next month and I hope I will see you for the quotes again after Race 1 next round.GP2 Series: Does being the Series leader put extra pressure on your shoulders prior to next round?Stefano: Its still too early although its good to be in the lead. Having an eleven point lead on the second after one race weekend is not bad, but its too early to think about the championship right now. We need to stay focused, score points at every weekend and well see halfway thru the season where we stand.--GP2 Series: Felipe, P2 today. Happy?Felipe Nasr: Yes. It was my target anyway before the race: I wanted to finish on the podium. What I could see from the car was that Stefano built a gap and was safe from there. After that I was mainly trying to save my tyres as best as I could. When it was eight laps to go, I started to push to try and catch up with him, but my rear tyres did not last long enough. I think thats something we need to work on, but Im still pleased with second place. Ive scored good points for the championship.GP2 Series: You had a good start. Take us through it.Felipe: I think I had a pretty good start, but I just could not go anywhere in turn 1. I was blocked from Richelmi who was quite slow entering into Turn 1. Coletti had a better run on the outside. Thats racing! I think I did the best I could today. We take all the positive and everything weve learnt this weekend and move on to the next race.GP2 Series: Talking about the next race, what are your hopes?Felipe: Well, it will be pretty hot there as well. The conditions will be pretty similar. Its a good place to improve the car. I like Bahrain. I had a strong qualifying there last year. I just had a few problems during the race. Im pretty confident. I think the championship is pretty long and we need to think on the long term. Our car is pretty good in qualifying. The race is what we need to work on. Its still good. Finishing second is a good start of the season and I am looking forward to the next round!--GP2 Series: Mitch, first GP2 race weekend and first podium. How does that feel?Mitch Evans: It feels amazing. Heading into the championship, I set goals to try and get into the points for my first race. We did not manage that yesterday, but we were struggling a lot with the balance of the car. We made a lot of adjustments to improve the car for today hoping we could try and get into the points from tenth. I got an amazing start and avoided the incident with James and Jolyon. I was very lucky to escape that. From then, I just tried to save the tyres and hopefully have a go at Stphane later into the race. With six laps to go, he made a mistake and I just got past. After that I managed to pull away. I brought it home from there. I did not want to try and get second because I knew I would have probably destroyed the tyres. I was hoping maybe Felipe would have caught Stefano and maybe made contact with him but that did not happen (Laughs). I am satisfied with third in my debut. I think were in a good position for the rest of the championship.GP2 Series: How did you manage your manage your first GP2 weekend?Mitch: Its just about learning the new things like the long races, try to save the tyres and also the pistops. Managing the tyres has been the hardest thing to get used to. I learnt a lot yesterday in race 1 which really helped me for today. I will keep learning and hopefully keep getting stronger and hopefully be challenging for maybe the race win later in the year.GP2 Series: You also had to learn a new track this weekend. It will be the same thing next round in Bahrain. What are your hopes?Mitch: If I have the same weekend in Bahrain, that would be incredible! I feel a lot more comfortable in the car. I dont have to worry about that. Also, now I have experience in the race and know how the tyres work in this hot conditions which hopefully will help me in Bahrain so hopefully we can improve again in Bahrain. That would be incredible. If we match it I would be very happy about that as well. So well keep trying to improve like we always do and have another go in Bahrain.
